What is Long Term Care Insurance
Long term care insurance covers long term illness or injury that is not covered by regular medical insurance. It provides the luxury of deciding where and how you or your loved one will receive care. This type of insurance pays for care whether it's delivered at home, in the community, in an adult day care center, in alternate living facilities, or in nursing facilities.
Does Long Term Care Only Apply To The Over-65 Crowd?
No! About 40% of the 12 million Americans receiving long term care each year are under 65. TWP Financial & Insurance Services® recognizes that it may be worth considering this type of coverage for younger clients as part of their comprehensive insurance portfolio.
We never want our clients to accept a lesser quality of life as they age. We can help you find a plan that will pay for the care you need to maintain the quality of life you expect.
Common Comments & Questions Regarding Long Term Care
1. It will never happen to me!
Long term care planning is not about determining if it will or will not happen to you. The real question to ask yourself is: If I am faced with a need for long term care services, will I be emotionally and financially prepared to handle it? An affirmative "Yes" to that is the goal of long term care planning.
2. My family will take care of me.
Too often, people expect more of their family than the family may be able to deliver. There are several questions you need to thoroughly examine to determine if relying upon family for long term care services is a viable option for you:
Does your family live close enough geographically to assist with your care?
Will your family be able to take time away from work to carry out the duties of a caregiver?
What if your family member should need care before you do? Who will take his or her place and provide care for you?
Long term care insurance allows family members to assist at a level that they are capable of, without placing any undue strain on the family member and without compromising the needs of the person requiring care.
3. Won't Medicare cover my long term care needs?
Certain criteria must be met in order for Medicare to pay for any of your long term care bills. Medicare is designed to pay for skilled care. It is not designed for routine care. For information about Medicare coverage for long term care needs: Click Here
